A performance commissioned by Leeds Emerge Festival

Inspired by the animals found in Leeds' architecture, Sleeping Lions is a performance for the whole city centre. A huge party takes place on the steps of the Town Hall as 50 performers celebrate the legend of the building's four stone lions. They party until midnight singing, dancing and playing together hoping to awaken their stone counterparts and bring the city to life.

Looking closer, at owl statues all over the city centre, Leeds' mascot is mirrored by solo performers dressed up on nights out to honour the iconic bird. The actors offer monologues to anyone who will listen. They chart the history of the place in which they stand, the wisdom they have to offer, and the strange and exciting things they've seen during the night on the town so far...
