This digital spectacle of light and sound propels the historic architecture of Leeds Civic Hall into the next century with the explosive energy of a firework display. 3D optical illusions and projection mapping combine to create an ultramodern white light show with surround sound. Theatre of Illumination takes you on a futuristic journey through time and space.
Originally commissioned by Leeds Inspired for Light Night 2014, this is an opportunity to revisit one of Light Night’s most loved projections.

Created by Valentin Fayaud and Nicolas Michel of TS/CN digital art studio in Paris, Liquid Fire is a generative digital sculpture. In this work, two naturally opposite elements combine in order to form a new one. Of monolithic shape, this digital waterfall shelters an immersive space which is the result of a combination of complementary and sometimes contradictory elements.
Here, fluids and flames cohabit, communicate and reflect each other despite their antagonisms. Liquid Fire presents a unique experience, as a generative piece when people approach at different times they will experience a new distinct aspect of the work.

04. I wanna be loved / Everybody does

Inspired from a “A Hymn” by Idles this artwork treats subjects such as intimacy and affection in an abstract way, exploring emotions that are developed between people and their objects/ideas. Desire and emotions can be modelled by cultural and social constructs and with this installation the public is invited to observe the ways in which intimate relationships intersect with the public space and use “love” as a transforming instrument for community.
Delivered as part of an artist exchange with Lights On Romania and Timisoara European Capital of Culture 2023.
05. Light Show
